  • Evo ICL

The EVO ICL, or implantable collamer lens, can correct your vision, offering lifelong healthy sight. The refractive lens augments your natural lens, correcting nearsightedness and astigmatism. Variations of the ICL have been available for over 20 years. During that time, over 1 million ICLs such as Visian ICL and EVO ICL have been implanted worldwide to fix the functional errors that normally worsen vision.

  • Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a corneal condition that typically starts to develop in patients between puberty and the onset of their thirties. It affects the shape of your eye, making it more cone-like. Keratoconus causes the cornea to thin, and can eventually lead to vision loss. Because it's progressive, you'll want to find treatment as soon as possible, such as special contact lenses or eye surgery. Though many of our Dallas patients have already been diagnosed with keratoconus by their primary eye care doctor and have been referred to us for surgical treatment, we can also help those at the beginning of their treatment journey.

  • LASIK Technology

An excimer laser is an ultraviolet laser that creates a non-thermal, cool beam of laser light that breaks molecular bonds through photoablation. The laser literally vaporizes microscopic bits of tissue without burning the adjacent tissue; therefore, it is ideally suited for the treatment of the cornea during LASIK surgery. The system harnesses the excimer laser beam and allows precise delivery of the laser to sculpt the cornea into a new shape. The excimer laser simply reshapes the corneal flap to improve the focusing power of the eye by imprinting the lens prescription onto the cornea, similar to the curvature that contact lenses provide to allow wearers to overcome farsightedness and nearsightedness.

  • Corneal Cross Linking

The front part of your eye is called the cornea, and it's normally strong and keeps its slightly rounded shape due to tiny connections between the corneal layers, much like the support beams in a house. However, when the eye is affected by keratoconus, there aren't enough of these connections, causing the cornea to bulge outward. Corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) is a procedure that adds more of these structural connections to the cornea. This makes the cornea stronger, stabilizes it, and slows the progression of keratoconus.

  • IOLs

Our ophthalmologists place intraocular lenses (IOLs) into the eye during cataract surgery to replace the natural lens. IOLs are a time-tested treatment: the first IOL was implanted in 1949 by ophthalmologist Sir Harold Ridley. Modern IOLs use advanced materials like acrylics, collagen polymer, and silicone because they are biologically compatible with your eye and offer lifetime durability.

  • Cornea Transplant

The cornea is the clear layer at the front of the eye. Injuries or diseases such as corneal dystrophy or keratoconus can leave the cornea scarred or opaque and distort your view of the world. If the cornea cannot be healed or repaired and your eyesight cannot be corrected using eyeglasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery, Cornea Associates of Texas can perform a cornea transplant. Our highly qualified surgeons use the latest proven corneal transplant techniques. These advanced measures allow us to tailor surgery to patients' needs and promote a faster recovery and better outcomes. During corneal transplant surgery, which is also called keratoplasty, a circular piece of the damaged corneal tissue is removed. It is replaced with a “button” of clear healthy cornea donated from an eye bank, which follows federal regulations to ensure only healthy tissue is used.

  • DSAEK

In the past, patients needing a cornea transplant typically had to resort to a full-thickness corneal transplant (penetrating keratoplasty), a complicated procedure that surgically replaces the entire damaged cornea with a donor cornea. Now, our Dallas ophthalmology office can benefit from DSAEK (Descemet's Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty). This procedure is a partial-thickness corneal transplant that leaves the healthy layers of the cornea intact. If you suffer from cataracts, it can often be combined with cataract surgery for even more comprehensive effects.
